Marketing & Publicity
My first involvement with the WI was through the WI Markets and I spent 7 or so happy years baking and jam and marmalade making for St Albans WI market before we moved to Gloucester and continued with the market here for a few years. Not knowing anyone here, I went with a couple of my new neighbours to Sandhurst WI, joined and never looked back. The WI has given me so much, apart from fun and friendship. I trained as a cookery judge, I was invited to take part in the WI exhibition at Olympia in the 80s, demonstrating salad making on top of a red London bus, stationery at the time. I have been minutes secretary, treasurer for many years and eventually President (twice) of Sandhurst. On a day when I wasn’t doing anything, I volunteered to join the Sport and Leisure committee and over the years organised about 14 holidays in various parts of Britain and got to know many members and eventually became a trustee.
I retired a good few years ago from GCHQ and then had a part time job for several years at Chedworth Roman Villa persuading visitors that being a member of the National Trust would be a good thing and now use some of that experience in what we are trying to do through the Marketing Committee to attract new members to the WI.
I became the County Chairman in 2024. I am still a member of Sandhurst and also of Horsbere now that we have moved to Longlevens and their President. In my spare time I enjoy walking, getting out and about, cooking, jam and marmalade making, dabbling in crafts and am a member of U3A.
