HOMES CRAFTS AND GARDENS

Using WI House as our main venue, we offer a varied programme of workshops throughout the year, both for those experienced in, or those who wish to learn a new skill, or craft-based activity.

We also offer visits and workshops for those interested in all things garden related.

Our outings are very popular, offering visits to many different venues, including gardens, houses and museums.

Homes Crafts and Gardens aim to offer our activities to all members; we also welcome friends if there are spaces. We do our best to keep workshops and events as low cost as possible, whilst offering the chance to learn both traditional and new skills, in a friendly informal setting. If there is a skill, craft or garden related workshop you’d like us to run please let us know.

Remember, it’s never too late to learn (anything!)

Marketing team

We are a small group and our aim is to make the WI more visible in the Federation and to recruit new members.  We all enjoy the WI and feel that there are many women who are not really aware of what the WI is or does and that it is there for all women of whatever background and age.

We have concentrated on designing material suitable for printing and distributing and also for display on social media as we have become very aware that this is the route for the future.  We have posters which can be downloaded and filled in with your own details for display or posting on Facebook, Nextdoor etc.

None of us has very much experience but we are learning all the time and we would welcome anyone with some background and skill in this area to come and join us.  It opens up lots of opportunities to engage with members and also to encourage new members.

Office and Finance

This is a small committee, chaired by the Federation Treasurer, and includes the Federation Chairman, the two vice Chairmen and the Assistant Treasurer with the Federation Secretary advising where necessary.

We are responsible for ensuring that the financial and administrative activities of the Federation comply with Charity Law and other legislation.  We scrutinise budgets for every event before their being approved by the Board of Trustees and have regular monthly updates on the current financial situation.

Membership

This committee is made up of WI advisers. The majority of their work is a supportive role, a listening ear, a signpost to information, an ideas bank and a way of connecting with the wider WI.

Their role is to help and support WIs to function as well as possible, by offering advice about the WI constitution, and offering workshops and training for members of WI committees. During the year workshops are run to support committee roles.

Promoting the WI across the Federation is an important part of their work and they are very happy to attend public or your own WI’s events to help you promote your WI. A gazebo is available and Advisers can bring this, with promotional material, to advertise the WI and support you in encouraging new members to attend your meetings. WI Advisers enjoy visiting WIs socially and meeting the members, when invited, and they are a contact between the WIs and the Federation. They can also give a free* talk about the history of the WI (*mileage only).

Advisers are happy to attend your Annual meeting to help with the election of new committees and to iron out any problems.

Your Adviser is always happy to help with any questions that you might have about the running of your WI. Either call or send an email if you have a question or concern that you would like help with.

Any member can contact an Adviser, they are listed in the Year Book or the GFWI office can put you in touch with yours. Contact the office too if you would like to find out more about the role of a WI Adviser or the Membership Committee.
