I joined the WI in 1983 after moving from Birmingham to Cheltenham, not knowing anyone but some made friends not only at WI but at the school gates. I had two girls who attended the local primary school. In 1995 due to personal circumstances I moved back to Birmingham and worked as a Practice Manager for a Doctor Surgery. In 2004 my youngest daughter was diagnosed with a terminal illness, so I moved back to Cheltenham to look after her and her then 4 year old son (Jake). My daughter died in 2007 and after a few years I rejoined the WI and have been on the committee doing the Secretary and President roles, and I have not looked back. I love belong to a group of likeminded women. I became a WI Adviser over five years ago and I enjoy going to other WI meetings and have made loads of friends along the way. I am now on the Board of Trustees and also the New Speakers Coordinator. I still find time to carry on with my two hobbies, knitting and lacemaking. I also have two lovely teenage granddaughters who live in Leeds who I try and go and visit at least once a month.
